HAP KI DO (pronounced Hop Gee Do) is a Korean Martial Art that stresses the development of the mind and body for practical self-defense. This martial art is uniquely designed for students who would like to prepare themselves to handle real life adverse situations (such as dealing with attackers – disarming weapons if necessary, using joint locks, and learning close-up maneuvers). Overall, Hap Ki Do has over 10,000 different techniques. Many complex techniques build on basic moves that are learned early. There is little chance that one could be bored in the course of studying this particular martial art, and in its many practical applications.

HAP KI DO literally translated means HAP – Together; KI – Energy; DO – Right Way in Life. Different from most self defense courses which teach a few basic techniques that are often quickly forgotten, Hap KiDo trains both the mind and the body of the student to work together. Over time, Hap Ki Do provides the discipline, calmness and confidence to execute the physical, coordinated movements with speed and accuracy. Hap Ki Do uses soft circular motions and avoids confronting power with power, therefore, the size and strength of the student are not nearly as important as the techniques.

The principles and techniques of Hap   Ki Do are practiced in order to develop   reflex actions – to be able to perform   without thinking. The deeper the   commitment to this art, the richer the   reward. The discipline and skill gained   from regular practice is just the   beginning – it translates naturally into   the daily lives of its students.

HAP KI DO techniques include kicks, strikes, throws, grasps and defense against weapons with all movements aimed at an opponent's pressure points, joints and other vital regions.

HAP KI DOhas a belt ranking system with requirements specific to the color belt. The student is required to take examinations to be promoted to the next belt.
