History
Yong In Martial Arts Academy made it's grand opening in Alexandria, VA. This martial arts
studio has been open for 15 years. Master Woo's dream and goal was to make his place a
monument for the community. Spreading his knowledge to anyone eager enough to join and learn
the way of martial arts.
In 1997, Master Woo invited 20 masters for a Benefits Demonstration. These 20 masters,
including Master Woo, visited 10 different states conducting a prestigious demonstration for all of
their viewers. After the demonstration/expedition, Master Woo signed numerous children and
adults for classes. When students started to spread the word about Master Woo's teachings, many
government and military personnel joined Hapkido and Tae Kwon Do.
In the year 2000, Master Woo started Before/After School Programs to get more kids
involved in Tae Kwon Do. After ten years of the program being opened, it has been a positive
influence to the community. Every year more and more come and join because parents see the
benefits this program gives them, and how much this martial arts can play a role in their child's
everyday life's experiences.
In 2002, Master Woo received an invitation from Yong In University to bring 20 students to
South Korea. The 20 students got to participate and watch class. They got to learn a lot about
Korean Culture. They also took tours around visiting villages and towns to see the life of Korean
culture. When the students got back they realized in some ways how different and more disciplined
Korea is than American Culture.
Master Woo has two schools, one location is in Alexandria, VA, and the other in Centreville,
VA. In 2005 Master Woo hired Master Yoonchang Lee who is a Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, and Judo
master. Master Lee has studied and practiced martial arts for over 25 years. He practiced and taught
at Yong In Academy for 6 years and is currently the head master at the Centreville facility, which
Master Woo opened in 2006.
In 2011 Master Woo added many programs that kids and adults can participate: Tae Kwon
Do, Hapkido, Before/After School Program, Summer/Spring/Winter Camps, Birthday Parties, Family
Fun Festivals, and a Women's stretching and fitness class. There are many programs to choose from
so feel free or eager to walk in and take a look around. If you're up to it you can start taking class
right away.
Also, Yong In Martial Arts Academy is involved in helping the non-profit organizations such
as "Toys for Tots". This organization is for children who have cancer. Every year we set out a big can
for all the students and families to donate gifts for kids who have cancer. We like to give the feeling
of "there are people out there who care" and want all the kids to know how special they are.
Every year we also conduct demonstrations for all the schools to see what we are about. The
community we are involved in is very big and full of young faces.
